Manager, NERC Compliance
Location: Queensbury, NY
Reporting to: Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Manager of NERC Compliance to oversee and maintain reliability compliance policies and procedures for Bulk Electric System (BES) generation and transmission assets in the U.S. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in reliability compliance management and a deep understanding of NERC standards, with strong leadership skills to guide compliance efforts across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Program Management:
- Manage and oversee reliability compliance policies and procedures related to BES generation and transmission assets.
- Track and implement new and revised NERC standards that impact the organization.
- Maintain an annual compliance schedule/calendar to ensure all deadlines are met for both generation and transmission assets.
Documentation and Evidence Management:
- Work with subject matter experts to organize and maintain compliance evidence for reporting and audits.
- Oversee the preparation and execution of audit activities, including internal and external compliance audits.
- Maintain procedure libraries and electronic document management systems for reliability compliance.
Leadership and Training:
- Lead and provide guidance to the compliance team and regional management on compliance efforts.
- Deliver training and guidance to regional operations staff as needed.
- Lead internal compliance committees and working groups to ensure adherence to standards.
Regulatory Interaction and Reporting:
- Manage subscriptions and input data for self-certifications using regional reliability organization compliance portals.
- Participate in regional reliability organization workshops and seminars to stay informed on compliance requirements.
Program Development and Budgeting:
- Recommend and implement changes to programs, policies, and procedures to maintain compliance.
- Develop and manage the compliance budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years in the electric utility industry.
- At least 5 years in a reliability compliance management role.
- Proven ability to lead and manage compliance programs in a dynamic environment.
Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of NERC 693 (O&P) and CIP Standards.
- Basic knowledge of electrical generation and transmission systems.
- Experience managing capital and operational budgets.
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and direct teams effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to influence and gain support for compliance initiatives.
- Ability to manage relationships with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Excellent organizational and change management skills in a fast-paced environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent experience required.
- A degree in Electrical Power Systems is a plus.
Compensation
- Base Salary: $95,000–$140,000/year
- Bonus: Up to 15%
