Job Summary

The Assistant Project Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the successful development of utility-scale energy projects and transmission infrastructure projects across the United States. Working closely with the Project Manager and the VP of Development Services, this role involves working on multiple projects concurrently providing comprehensive project support, with responsibilities including permitting, landowner lease negotiations, interconnection processes, project research, technical memorandum, desktop analysis, mapping (KMZ and GIS) and nurturing important relationships with independent power producers (IPPs) and developers.


The following responsibilities and duties are intended to describe categories of potential workflows, but it should not be assumed to be exhaustive as our value to our clients is in our ability to ebb and flow with project needs.


Job Responsibilities

Project Support and Coordination

  • Assist the Project Manager in all aspects of renewable energy project development from initial greenfield efforts through to the start of construction, including identifying new development opportunities, performing site assessments, fatal flaw analysis, initial site reconnaissance, survey coordination, and other due diligence on new and existing projects, as well as developing project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with internal teams focusing on site acquisition, real estate, local, state and federal permitting, interconnection, environmental, and policy aspects.
  • Assist the PM to manage/contract external entities for aspects of the project such as survey, Geotech, environmental conditions, civil design, etc.
  • Support and engage in the BLM process, including Plan of Development (POD) preparation/revision and liaison with BLM staff.

Permitting and Environmental Compliance

  • Collaborate with or at the direction of the Project Manager to obtain all necessary permits for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including local land use approvals, crossing agreements, and environmental clearances from Local, State, and Federal agencies.
  • Assist in evaluating and obtaining required screenings, surveys, and authorizations for threatened and endangered species, ensuring project compliance with CEQA, NEPA, SEQR, and other applicable regulations.
  • Manage plan check comments resolution, expedite reviews, and maintain a comprehensive permit document library to support project development and compliance efforts effectively.

Client Communication and Stakeholder Relations

  • Work alongside the Project Manager to maintain regular contact with clients, provide updates, address inquiries, and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project.
  • Support the Project Manager in fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, including utility companies, governmental bodies, and industry organizations.
  • Engage community, local, state, and federal institutions for project support.

Team Support

  • Collaborate with the project team to provide assistance, support, and training to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Communicate and sync cross-functionally with various team members regularly to minimize project risks.

Budget Tracking and Documentation Assistance

  • Assist in monitoring project budgets and expenses under the guidance of the Project Manager.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports and project records.


Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as technical, business, or science.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in the renewable and clean energy industry.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, MS Project, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time to project sites, industry events, and company events.
  • Familiarity with GIS, mapping systems, third-party siting tools, Google Earth, and document management systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and agreements related to government, utilities, local permits, and land.
  • Project management or development experience in the solar, construction, or real estate industries.
  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and a desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Exemplary standards of integrity, honor, safety, management, ethics, quality, and productivity.
