Position Overview:  STARS Academy seeks a passionate and dynamic Development Director to lead the school’s fundraising initiatives and advance its mission. The Development Director will design, implement, and manage a comprehensive development program that includes annual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, and special events. Reporting to the Head of School, the Development Director will play a key role in building and sustaining relationships with donors, alumni, families, and the broader community to meet the school’s strategic goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of School to set philanthropic and strategic objectives, evaluate progress, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Develop and execute an Annual Giving program, encompassing current parents, trustees, grandparents, and alumni, as well as launching a legacy giving program.
  • Plan and manage capital campaigns to support STARS Academy’s strategic vision and growth initiatives, including developing donor enthusiasm and securing major gifts.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including trustees, faculty, alumni, and community leaders.
  • Oversee all fundraising events, including the annual Spring Gala, community events, and faculty and staff campaigns.
  • Partner with parent leadership to support volunteer engagement and educate families about the importance of philanthropy.
  • Manage special events to foster community engagement and donor stewardship.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, gift acknowledgment, and donor recognition.
  • Create and disseminate campaign marketing materials, including newsletters, annual reports, and social media messaging.
  • Produce regular analyses and reports for the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
  • Lead the advancement team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment through regular meetings, retreats, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Stay up to date on fundraising trends and best practices to ensure innovative and effective strategies.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in development or advancement management, preferably in an independent school or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing comprehensive fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, capital campaigns, and major gifts.
  • Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward donor relationships effectively.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Passion for STARS Academy’s mission and an understanding of the unique aspects of arts-integrated education.

  • Compensation and Benefits:  As this is a new position for STARS Academy, we are evaluating the need for a full-time or part-time person in this position. The salary ranges from $5,000-7,500 per month with room for growth depending on the success of the position.
