Process Safety Engineer

Overview:



We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Process Safety Engineer to join our pharmaceutical manufacturing team. This role is integral to ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of our manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with pharmaceutical processes and equipment, contributing to a culture of safety and operational excellence.



Responsibilities:



  • Conduct thorough risk assessments such as HAZOP, PHA, and FMEA to identify and prioritize potential hazards in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with engineering, operations, and safety teams.
  • Lead and continuously enhance the Process Safety Management (PSM) program to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Create, review, and update Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to reflect current safety standards and practices.
  • Manage and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals used in manufacturing, ensuring accessibility and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct process safety audits and inspections to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure adherence to established safety protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on process safety practices, fostering a strong safety culture within the organization.
  • Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Support the design and evaluation of new processes and modifications to ensure compliance with safety standards.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably in pharmaceutical or highly regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Professional certification in process safety (e.g., Certified Process Safety Professional) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety regulations, including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and industry standards such as NFPA and ANSI.
  • Proficiency in process safety tools and software, such as PHAWorks, BowTieXP, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive safety initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to anticipate potential risks and develop proactive solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effectively collaborating with diverse teams and presenting technical information.
