The VP, Physician Revenue Cycle will be responsible for establishing the strategic direction, operational efficiency, and overall performance of revenue cycle operations across UPMC’s primary care and specialty practices – covering the core functions of clinical documentation integrity (CDI), physician coding, utilization management (UM), and revenue integrity. Reporting directly to the system Chief Revenue Cycle Officer, this executive will complement the senior leadership team within the physician service’s division (PSD) and collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer of PSD. The 5,000+ physician, PSD currently includes University of Pittsburgh Physicians (UPP), Community Medicine (CMI), and other non-hospital affiliated physician business units.


This role will focus on creating a cohesive and integrated physician revenue cycle management (RCM) function within the management services organization (MSO) that enhances financial performance while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The VP, Physician Revenue Cycle will oversee the implementation of technology solutions and best practices to streamline billing and collections, reduce claim denials, and improve revenue integrity, while also fostering collaboration among clinical, operational, and financial teams across PSD. Additionally, this leader will drive initiatives to support alternative payment models and outcome-based care delivery, ensuring alignment with the health system’s mission and strategic goals. By developing strong relationships with stakeholders, including administration, physicians, and staff, the VP, Physician Revenue Cycle will promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in revenue cycle operations. Ultimately, this individual will be accountable for advancing the organization’s financial sustainability, operational excellence, and commitment to patient care across the integrated health system.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare management or related healthcare field required.
  • 10 years of managing revenue cycle operations of complex healthcare system with proven results, with five years using Epic and strong knowledge of Finance/ AR-related healthcare and reporting technology.
  • Proven track record of managing RCM processes and implementing successful technology solutions in a large, integrated healthcare system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in data analysis and financial management, with a demonstrated ability to use analytics to drive decision-making and improve revenue cycle performance, including the ability to analyze financial data for operations, budgeting, auditing, forecasting, accounting, AR and reserve analysis, market analysis, staffing and financial reporting.
