Controller

You are a seasoned financial leader who thrives in a collaborative and dynamic environment. You bring expertise in nonprofit accounting, GAAP principles, and hands-on leadership to drive financial excellence.

This position pays: Competitive compensation based on experience. $140k-$165k+

Location: Sonoma, CA.

Schedule: 100% on-site.

What you will be doing:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, cash management, banking, and financial reporting.

• Manage grant-related financial activities, ensuring compliance and accurate monthly invoicing for reimbursement.

• Maintain restricted fund records and payroll allocation schedules.

• Develop, document, and implement accounting and financial policies and procedures.

• Ensure timely month-end and annual close processes and reconciliation of all assets and liabilities accounts.

• Prepare monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual analyses, and collaborate with department heads.

• Lead year-end financial statement and audit processes.

• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development.

• Upgrade accounting procedures and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.

• Assist the VP of Finance and CEO with strategic financial planning for new initiatives.

• Lead annual budget preparation and implementation.

• Conduct ad hoc financial analyses and generate projections.

What you bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business; CPA highly preferred.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior financial position, preferably in nonprofit organizations.

• Expertise in GAAP, management accounting methods, and fund accounting.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP platforms; Sage Intacct experience is a plus.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and handle confidential information with discretion.

• A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.

• Collaborative mindset and ability to work with diverse teams.

• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and fund reporting is highly preferred.
