Job Description

Proper Hospitality is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance at Montauk Yacht Club, our 107-room luxury property within The Collective.


Spanning 35 acres on Montauk’s Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities.


The Assistant Director of Finance supports the financial health and success of the property by providing strategic financial oversight, operational excellence and collaborative team leadership.


Key Responsibilities:


Financial Management & Oversight

  • Assist the Director of Finance in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets and forecasts
  • Analyze financial performance and key metrics, providing actionable insights to enhance profitability and operational efficiency
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reports, adhering to established standards and deadlines


Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard the hotel’s financial resources and ensure compliance with company policies, local regulations, and industry best practices
  • Prepare for and manage audits, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with standards
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and updating financial policies and procedures


Collaboration & Leadership

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Finance team, fostering professional development and a collaborative work environment
  • Partner with department heads to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making
  • Act as a financial liaison for hotel ownership and corporate stakeholders


Strategic Planning & Projects

  • Support the Director of Finance in executing long-term financial planning and capital investment strategies
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement while maintaining the highest quality standards
  • Participate in special projects, such as system upgrades, process improvements, and operational initiatives


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in hotel finance or accounting, preferably within a boutique or luxury hotel environment
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in financial systems and software, such as PMS, POS, and accounting systems (e.g., Opera, Micros, Sage, or similar)
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
