Job Description

Our client seeks a skilled Automation and Controls Engineer to join a dynamic team of over 20 engineers serving the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate professional who excels at delivering exceptional client service, producing high-quality technical work on schedule and budget, and contributing to a motivated national team of Automation experts.


As part of the Automation team, you will contribute to impactful projects through the following responsibilities:


Key Responsibilities

  • Designing basic to highly complex instrumentation, controls, and related systems using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
  • Preparing technical memoranda, preliminary design reports (PDRs), and specifications for specific components and products.
  • Reviewing component-level shop drawings and responding to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Performing field acceptance testing (FATs), field inspections, and creating human-machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and reports.
  • Leading testing and startup teams for instrumentation and control systems, ensuring documentation completion and quality assurance.
  • Assisted with developing operations and maintenance manuals and created systems training for end users.
  • Mentoring junior staff, reviewing their work, and providing leadership within the team.
  • Supporting proposal development and client presentations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam within 18 months of hire.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience (equivalent additional experience may be considered instead of a degree).
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally based on project demands.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater industry.
  • Background working within an engineering or construction firm.


Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and related systems design.
  • Proficiency in 3D and 4D CAD drafting software.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
