Job Description

SUMMARY

The Lead Designer leads a small team of Designers per assigned project. The objective is to design products to perform effectively within the budget and schedule.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in related field required or equivalent amount of education and/or experience in related field.

Preferred:

  • B.S.E.E. - Electrical Design Technology and Engineering in electronics, electrical or fluids.
  • 5-10 years' experience in designing machine tool equipment for assembly or test.
  • 5-10 years' experience in various controls system hardware (P.C., P.L.C., communications, and instrumentation signal conditioning) architecture.
  • 3-5 years' experience in Failure Mode Effect Analysis.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Manage, follow-up, and perform all phases of design on projects assigned in accordance with KUKA Engineering Department Procedures and direction.
  • Leads a small group of designers to produce functional and cost-effective designs within the assigned budget and schedule.
  • Prepare actual designs using design software.
  • Provide appropriate support to Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production Control Department to assure all projects will achieve timing and budgets.
  • Always have an up to date understanding of timing and budgeted hours for assigned projects.
  • Perform comparative analysis of designs and drawings, to ensure conformances to KUKA and customer standards specifications, and good engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce test and/or assembly machine layouts using Eplan, AutoCAD or similar software
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Advanced knowledge with software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows, PLM; Team Center
  • Ensure that designs and all purchased components and parts will function and perform their intended task in the environment in which they operate for meeting all designated R & M requirements and life expectancies based on duty cycles and cycle time.
  • Perform field service/checks as required on equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with other departments.
  • Follow KUKA design and CAD guidelines with all assigned projects.
  • Maintain/follow clean data management practices with all assigned projects.
  • Successfully participate in reviews of assigned projects.
  • Assist in machine debug and try out as requested.
