MANAGER-DAY SHIFT PRODUCTION

Job Title: Manager-Day Shift Production Level: Exempt

Department: Production Plant

Reports to: Assistant Plant Manager

Backup: Plant Manager

1.0 ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1 Communication

The day shift manager will be responsible for performing weekly safety\quality\food safety and GMP audits. The day shift manager will be responsible for conducting the weekly plant meeting to discuss topics ranging from food safety to efficiency. The manager will be responsible for communicating any deficiencies with direct reports concerning his or her current job performance. The manager will also be responsible for communicating any deficiencies to the plant manager or designee so that plans can be put in place for improvement or replacement. It will also be the responsibility of the day shift manager to communicate exceptional job performance so that employees may be rewarded. The day shift manager will be required to meet with the maintenance manager daily to ensure downtime\uptime improvements are achieved through operator improvements as well as PM and maintenance and repair systems.

1.2 Continued Improvement

The day shift manager will be responsible for developing and implementing process improvements in the canning and receiving area by developing and leading cost reduction teams. Continuous improvement projects may be defined as reduced waste, reduced staffing, utility reductions, maintenance PM systems etc. The manager will be required to develop an annual productivity improvement plan; the plan will be submitted to the plant manager for approval.

1.3 Efficiency

The day shift manager will ensure all production standards and goals are being maintained, improved, and documented. The manager will be required to understand and communicate run rates with hourly team members and supervisors. The manager will be required to maintain daily downtime records. In order to improve efficiency and decrease downtime the manager will be required to maintain and exceed a 3.5% operational downtime goal as well as 88% efficiency average for all canning lines.

1.4 Employee Training

The day shift manager will be responsible for developing his team. The manager will be required to properly perform the required training for all assigned task. The training programs will be developed by the fill room supervisor from dayshift, nightshift and the managers from

both shifts. The training material will contain the following information: plant safety, job specific, GMP and Food Safety.

1.5 Management of Plant

The day shift manager is responsible for maintaining and improving operations through-out the plant by leading through good communication and teamwork. The manager must provide the knowledge and tools needed to assist hourly associates and supervisors in daily operations. The manager is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for all employees. The manager will lead by example. The manager is responsible for ensuring that the plant produces safe quality food products.

1.6 Safety

The day shift manager will be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment in his or her area. The manager will be required to maintain a daily log of safety incidents, safety violations and safety hazards. The manager must report all safety hazards to the plant manager, safety coordinator and QA manager. The manager will be responsible for performing a safety audit once per week in another area of the plant as well as daily safety audits in his or her assigned area. Ensures Food Safety practices are followed and maintained.

1.7 Scheduling\Production

The day shift manager will be responsible for assisting the plant manager in the implementation of the weekly production schedule. The day shift manager will be responsible for reviewing the schedule daily and planning the next production run with associates to ensure all production lines start up efficiently. The day shift manager will maintain daily downtime and efficiency reports as well as communicating results to the team members on the shop floor to ensure continued improvement.

1.8 Supervisor Development

The day shift manager will be responsible for developing, mentoring, and managing supervisors for each designated area. The manager will maintain open dialogue with the line leads such as production scheduling, staffing reductions or increases according to product mix. The manager and his or her supervisors will be responsible for developing and implementing job descriptions for all assigned task in his or her area as well as performing JSA’s. 1.9 Other duties may be assigned

2.0 LANGUAGE SKILLS

2.1 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

3.0 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

4.1 Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusion.

4.2 Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

4.3 Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

4.4 Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
