Job description
The System Administrator is responsible for managing the service desk, providing comprehensive end- user support, and ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a security-first mindset, and hands-on experience with various IT systems. This position involves handling service desk requests and providing prompt support to end users (40%), managing, updating, and securing our IT infrastructure (40%), and planning and executing ad-hoc IT projects to improve system performance and security (20%). This role is primarily office-based with some limited work-from-home capability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Service Desk : Handle and prioritize service desk requests, providing day-to-day support to end users.
- Server Management : Implement, manage, update, and patch both physical and virtual servers.
- Network Monitoring : Monitor and maintain networking devices, including firewalls, switches, routers, and servers.
- Backup and Restore : Configure, troubleshoot, and test backups and restores for critical infrastructure.
- System Upgrades : Plan and execute system upgrades and improvements to enhance performance and security.
- Disaster Recovery : Participate in and maintain disaster recovery scenarios, policies, and practices.
- Documentation : Maintain thorough documentation for departmental procedures and system configurations.
- IT Best Practices : Implement and enforce best practices to ensure the integrity and security of the IT infrastructure.
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Windows Server Management : Extensive hands-on experience managing a Windows-centric server environment.
- Virtualization : Proficiency in VMware and Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
- Storage Area Network (SAN) : Experience with HPE 3PAR SAN configuration and management.
- Active Directory : Strong knowledge of Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Microsoft 365 Administration : Proficiency with M365, including Entra, Intune, Exchange, and Teams.
- Backup Solutions : Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication (B&R).
- Automation and Scripting : Familiarity with automation technologies and PowerShell scripting.
- Networking Protocols : Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, and ICMP.
Education / Experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience required to successfully complete the primary accountabilities is indicated below)
Degree: Bachelor’s
Major: Information Technology, or related field
Years and Type of Experience: 5+
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, with preference given to previous System Administrator or IT experience in a manufacturing environment.
