Position Title: Engineering Manager – Pre-FID Phase
Project: Blue Ammonia Project
Location: Houston, Texas (hybrid work environment in the Galleria)
Reports to: EPC Project Director
Employment Type – Contract (1 year)
The Engineering Manager will manage all engineering activities related to the design and development of the blue ammonia production facilities during the FEED and pre-FID phases with a strong emphasis on full EPC phase readiness (positioning the project for successful transition from FEED Development into EPC execution) . This includes coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring technical compliance, and overseeing the timely delivery of engineering deliverables and leading the selection of the systems, processes & procedures to be utilized to manage the EPC phase. The role requires expertise in ammonia production processes, engineering design & execution principles, and project management.
Key Responsibilities (Pre-FID Phase):
- Managing all FEED optimization and early EPC readiness engineering activities to ensure a ‘fit for purpose’ facility.
- Managing the technical elements of the ‘Invitation to Tender’ (ITT) processes from initial development to final selection.
- Managing project-wide design compliance with local, state and federal safety requirements, as well as industry standards and codes.
- Managing technical assurance and quality activities.
- Managing governance reviews, cost and schedule reviews, peer reviews, safety reviews, engineering reviews and studies.
- Managing contractor’s ‘Request for Information’ (RFI’s) and technical deviations.
- Managing interface information between the contractors on the various scopes of work.
- Managing the development of Company technical documents for inclusion into the contracts.
- Managing technical third-party support activities.
- Managing all Company’s technical deliverables to ensure FID is achieved on time and within budget.
- Supporting the development and negotiation of the technical content of FEED optimization/early works and EPC contracts and any associated subcontracts.
- Supporting the management of FEED contractors, EPC contractors, Owner’s Engineer support services, project partners, vendors and licensors.
- Acting as the primary point of contact between the engineering team and other project stakeholders.
- Supporting development of internal EPC project execution processes, plans and procedures.
- Supporting risk management activities.
- Supporting regulatory approvals and permits.
- Supporting assurance activities related to the EPC cost estimate and schedule.
- Developing and implementing staff resourcing requirements.
Required Experience:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- At least 15 years of project experience in major capital projects with at least 10 years in a direct supervisory role.
- Previous experience as an Engineering Manager role.
- FEED experience on ammonia project/s with in-depth knowledge of ammonia production processes and ancillary systems such as the air separation unit (ASU), ammonia storage tanks and boil-off gas management, ammonia ship loading/vapor systems, electrical power grid importation, natural gas supply via pipeline and CO2 sequestration.
- Knowledge and application of US project regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
- Worked on the Owner’s (i.e. client) team.
- Modularization experience.
- Experience at supporting negotiations for different contracting strategies (lump sum, T&M, unit rate, etc.).
