Job Description:
The Director of Finance will oversee all financial activities to ensure a complete understanding of MVDS’ financial standing. The position has high potential to grow into a CFO role. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is a strategic partner with the Executive Director, Administrative Team, and Board of Directors, with responsibility for the organization’s financial management and strategy, including directing and implementing company financial policies and procedures, financial forecasting, budgeting, and monitoring of revenue and expenses, and ensuring regular reporting to a wide variety of stakeholders.
Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field.
2. CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
Experience:
1. At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management , with nonprofit and/or healthcare experience strongly preferred.
2. Excellent mathematical and analysis skills.
3. Ability to lead departments and individuals.
4. Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to create user friendly reports and present them to others.
5. Knowledge of financial accounting and general ledger software, with Dynamics GP experience a plus.
6. Ability to analyze hardware and software solutions and create long-term plans.
7. Strong creative skills to develop new and innovative solutions.
8. Experience creating usable budgets at different levels of detail and maintaining shared cost allocations.
9. Strong organizational and project management skills and ability to work both independently and in a team format.
10. Experience with payroll processing and software, with Paycom experience a plus.
11. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Essential Functions:
- Steward and participate in developing an organization-wide financial strategy, providing fiscal oversight for the organization.
- Lead the annual operating budget development process in consultation with Executive Director and senior staff, and present the annual budget to the Internal Affairs Committee and Board.
- Manage the organization’s finance department and supervise accounting staff, serving as back-up in all functions as needed (e.g., accounts payable).
- Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, billing, and other financial systems
- Coordinate with Development Director and Executive Director in the preparation of all grant, contract, and project budgets, as well as required budget modifications.
- Prepare timely monthly financial close and internal financial reports as needed for Executive Director, Board of Directors and Program Directors to ensure a shared understanding of the organization’s financial position and to support program management.
- Serve as lead manager of the agency’s annual audit process including financial statements, single audit, and IRS 990, meeting all prescribed deadlines.
- Respond to requests from governmental agencies.
- Maintain up to date finance policy and procedure manuals and ensure adherence.
- Oversee administration of representative payee functions; supervise benefits administrator.
- Develop in depth knowledge of I/DD benefits, including Social Security, Medicaid and Medicaid Waivers, ABLE accounts, and trusts. A not-for-profit serving Eagle, Garfield, Lake and Pitkin Counties Finance Director 1.13.25
- Represent MVDS on Alliance Colorado committees and as requested by Executive Director.
- Oversee and manage Payroll processing on a bi-weekly and monthly basis. Provide ongoing training to Payroll and Benefits Specialist to ensure payroll compliance and accuracy.

Physical Demands:
This position requires frequent walking, sitting and occasional standing and driving; occasional balancing, stooping, bending; frequent handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms; and constant finger movements. The position requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 25 lbs. The position also requires ordinary talking and hearing capability; full vision capabilities; and the ability to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, and reason and analyze on a constant basis, and to perform calculations frequently. Work is performed using a computer and standard office machinery daily, and occasional use of a vehicle.
