POSITION SUMMARY: Ensure that BBSI’s financial risk is minimized by reviewing all client submissions and making decisions in accordance with Underwriting and Pricing Guidelines. This position primarily underwrites medical benefits; however, periodic support of our Workers’ Compensation Underwriting Team is required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Underwriting Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Review new business submissions to ensure all required data has been provided
· Gather information needed to assess risk based on Underwriting Guidelines
· Make pricing recommendations in accordance with internal strategy and department goals
· Complete assigned new business and renewal workflow in a timely and accurate manner
· Demonstrate an advanced understanding of underwriting methodology and processes
· Utilize analytical skills, problem-solving and critical thinking to reach business decisions
· Mentor less experienced team members and develop training materials for internal stakeholders
· Collaborate with external partners including carrier representatives
· Communicate and build relationships with insurance department team members, benefits consultants

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
· 5+ years of health insurance underwriting experience required
· Ability to collect, reconcile, analyze, and summarize data at an advanced level
· Exceptional attention to detail and an ability to produce accurate outputs
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Broad range of skills with financial analysis tools, experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Access and Excel
Salary and Other Compensation :
The starting hourly rate for this position is between $85-105K yearly. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography, skills, education, experience, certifications, and other qualifications of the candidate.
This position is also eligible for annual incentive pay equal to 8% of annual regular pay, prorated in the first year, in accordance with the terms of the Company’s plan.

Paid Time Off : Accrued sick leave of 1 hour for every 40 hours of work, with maximum based on state or regional requirements; vacation accrues up to 80 hours in the first year, up to 120 hours in years 2-4, and up to 160 hours in the fifth year; 6 paid holidays annually, 4 paid volunteer days annually.
