JOB SUMMARY:

The Logistics Superintendent is responsible for managing the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department, with a focus on ensuring the accurate and timely handling of inbound and outbound shipments. This role involves monitoring inventory levels, addressing discrepancies, and driving process improvements to enhance efficiency. Success in this position requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive, hands-on approach to managing a dynamic and fast-paced logistics environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor the shipping and receiving team to foster professional growth.
  • Develop and manage team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and compliance with labor regulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address disciplinary matters as needed.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of all inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Collaborate with the materials department to monitor inventory levels and promptly address discrepancies.
  • Track and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including on-time delivery, expedited freight, detention times, inventory accuracy, FIFO adherence, and implementation plans for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of inbound and outbound shipments, inventory movements, and container tracking.
  • Work closely with internal departments, including production, materials, and quality, to align shipping and receiving requirements with operational goals.
  • Oversee container management processes for suppliers and customers to ensure efficient handling and utilization.
  • Inspect and maintain warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and loading docks, to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in shipping and receiving, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Working understanding of ERP/MRP systems (QAD preferred.)
  • Should have a working knowledge of the best practices in inventory management, supply chain management, personnel management in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Working knowledge of Customer Portals, (GM Supply Power, ESupplier Connect, Ford)
  • Passport or enhanced driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to stand/walk for the duration of shift (8+ hours).
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted.
  • Able to perform frequent repetitive motions.
  • Workstation is in a shared and open environment.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5% Local travel; approximate 20-mile radius
  • 5% international travel to our Canadian plants
