Category Manager - Bakery, Prepared, Pantry & Snacks

*Categories may shift based on growth, skillset & long-term interests

The Category Manager is responsible for the overall assortment and fulfillment of assigned grocery categories -- onboarding new vendors, developing pricing strategies, planning promotions, monitoring inventory, merchandising, and submitting purchase orders. They lead the long-term vision, growth strategy and profitability of their categories.


Responsibilities:


Assortment

  • Analyze internal and external data to develop category strategy aligned with industry and consumer trends
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding of products in accordance with sourcing standards
  • Act as subject matter expert in assigned categories, providing thought leadership to the organization
  • Reevaluate sourcing standards as a team to ensure alignment with company mission and category assortment needs
  • Review analytics to optimize marketplace engagement and features to improve discoverability
  • Partner with vendors and Marketing to create a promotion schedule of new & existing products
  • Add products to the online marketplace and actively manage listings in assigned categories
  • Forecast sales and provide relevant updates to the team


Vendor Management

  • Foster trusting, win-win partnerships with producers and other supply chain partners
  • Work with producers and suppliers to resolve any reliability, compliance, and quality issues


Pricing & Promotions

  • Negotiate costs and delivery terms with suppliers and execute pricing strategy to meet margin targets for assigned categories
  • Examine competition to determine trends and pricing bandwidth
  • Work with Operations to maintain lean & accurate inventory levels


Fulfillment

  • Submit purchase orders in a timely fashion and in accordance with established vendor deadlines
  • Review customer trends & historical data to forecast product demand
  • Update inventory records to display current and future inventory levels, expiration dates, etc
  • Approve and reconcile invoices from vendors in conjunction with AP team


Qualifications:

  • 2+ years relevant work experience in category management or similar field, preferably in the grocery industry
  • Ability to work well independently, but also be part of a larger team
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Outstanding communication and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel


Relevant Skills & Experience:

  • Passion for food, sustainable agricultural practices and high quality standards
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing relationships with external partners of various scale, demonstrating a commitment to flexibility without compromising business objectives
  • Experience purchasing in assigned categories preferred
  • Deep understanding of margins and profitability
  • Subject matter expertise for products within assigned categories; category retail experience a plus
  • Understanding of quality standards, certifications, regulations, trends within assigned categories
  • Comfortable working with new and evolving tools, providing constructive feedback internally


Salary & Benefits:

This is a regular, full-time (40 hours/week) salary, non exempt position. Team members receive an employee discount on all Fresh Harvest products. Employer subsidized health insurance and 401k available after 60 days of employment.


Starting at $60,000. Salary varies based on experience.
