We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager with a strong focus in payroll to lead our payroll operations while managing various essential accounting functions. The ideal candidate will combine leadership skills with in-depth knowledge of payroll systems, tax regulations, union agreements, and accounting principles. The Finance department is fast-paced and requires ability to change pace with little to no notice. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the following:
Oversee Payroll Staff: Supervise and manage Payroll Staff Accountants, including staffing, performance monitoring, and job appraisals.
Ensure Accurate Payroll: Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including calculating earnings and deductions.
Maintain Compliance: Ensure payroll practices comply with union rules, federal, state, and local tax regulations, and other applicable laws.
Improve Payroll Processes: Manage, develop, and refine payroll processes, policies, and best practices.
Requirements:
Very limited travel.
Ability to work in an office environment.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of four years payroll processing experience including two years in a supervisory role. In lieu of degree, a minimum of seven years payroll processing experience, including two years in a supervisory role, may be considered.
Experience with union payroll processing and reporting is highly preferred.
Experience with multi-state payroll processing and tax reporting preferred.
Experience in construction-based company preferred.
Intermediate-level proficiency with Excel, including the ability to create, manipulate and analyze spreadsheets.
Competency with MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance; ability to research and interpret regulations.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Ability to be highly confidential with information based on the nature of the responsibilities.
