*Overview*
The Patient Advocate's primary role is managing communications with patients concerning their billing and insurance questions. This position involves efficiently handling both inbound and outbound calls, providing precise self-pay price quotes and estimates, and promptly resolving patient inquiries through informed decisions and collaborative efforts. This role is essential for ensuring patient satisfaction and maintaining effective communication regarding financial aspects of their healthcare
*Responsibilities*
* *Inbound and Outbound Communication*
* Manage inbound and outbound calls with efficiency, ensuring a high level of service and prompt responses to patient inquiries.
*Issue Analysis and Resolution*
* *Insurance and Billing:* Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents to identify and resolve billing issues. Provide patients with clear, step-by-step guidance on insurance claims and coverage.
* *Issue Analysis:* Thoroughly analyze EOB documents to assess billing discrepancies and address patient concerns.
* *Issue Resolution:* Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve patient inquiries promptly. Collaborate with other departments to ensure swift and effective solutions.
* *Effective Communication:* Clearly explain insurance claims and coverage to patients. Escalate complex issues to the appropriate department for timely resolution.
*Charity and Financial Assistance Cases*
* Review charity case award letters to verify that the correct FSC has been assigned to CC accounts.
* Provide accurate self-pay price quotes and financial estimates to patients, helping them make informed decisions regarding their care.
*Special Projects and Training*
* *Special Projects:* Expertly handle all aspects of patient billing and bad debt collections while completing special projects related to departmental functions.
* *Training:* When necessary, assist in providing additional training on specific departmental tasks.
*Required Qualifications*
* Proven customer service experience, ideally in healthcare or financial settings.
* Solid understanding of medical billing processes and insurance documentation.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Associate degree or High School diploma.
* Experience with AthenaIDX or similar medical billing platforms.
* Background in medical billing.
