Are you passionate about the outdoors and wildlife? Join our team as a Wilderness Guide and lead guests into the heart of Alaska’s stunning wilderness, where they’ll have the chance to see coastal brown bears, eagles, black-tailed deer, and many more animals native to the island.
What Makes This Role Amazing: - Wildlife Encounters: Immerse yourself in Alaska’s natural beauty while showcasing its incredible wildlife.
- Adventure & Storytelling: Lead guests through scenic trails, sharing knowledge of local ecosystems, culture, and history.
- Create Memories: Be the highlight of a guest’s journey by offering unforgettable experiences in the great outdoors.
What You’ll Do: - Guide small groups of guests through Alaska’s wilderness with a focus on safety and education.
- Provide engaging narration about local wildlife, plants, ecosystems, and Tlingit culture.
- Spot and identify wildlife, sharing insights to enhance the guest experience.
- Ensure guest safety and comfort throughout the tour.
- Participate in training sessions to deepen your knowledge of the area and guiding best practices.
- Support other programs or duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For: - Love for Nature: Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Alaska’s wildlife and ecosystems.
- Great Communicator: Strong verbal skills, with the ability to connect with guests of all ages and backgrounds.
- Safety Focus: Committed to ensuring the safety of guests in wilderness settings.
- Cultural Curiosity: A willingness to learn and share the rich history and traditions of Tlingit culture.
- Team Player: Ability to collaborate with other guides and adapt to changing needs.
Requirements: - Ability to hike several miles on uneven terrain and work in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable living in a remote, rural community during the season.
- Willingness to travel by small plane or ferry to and from the location.
- Previous guiding or outdoor experience is a plus but not required—training is provided!
