CNA/MHA - Geri Psych - FT - Days at Haywood Regional Medical Center summary:

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Mental Health Associate (MHA) in Geriatric Psychiatry, I assist patients with daily living activities and provide direct patient care, including therapeutic interventions. I observe and report on patient behavior, facilitate psychoeducational groups, and maintain safety through crisis intervention. My role requires critical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to work under pressure while handling sensitive patient information.

Assists patients with performing activities of daily living.
Provides or assists with providing direct patient care, diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions.
Observes and records patient behavior and activities. Reports any changes in physical, mental or emotional condition to nursing staff and suggests modifications to the treatment plan.
Provides crisis intervention with incoming calls and on the unit to maintain safety.
Facilitates psychoeducational groups.

Minimum Education
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Psychology, Counseling or related field preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Six months of experience working with population served OR
Peer Support Specialist Training OR
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)*
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Skills
Certifications:
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS within 30 days of hire)
American Heart Association First Aid (within 30 days of hire) *not required for CNA
Handle With Care required within 90 days of hire.
Required Licenses
Nursing Assistant
* For CNA/MHA - must have and maintain North Carolina Certified Nursing Assistant
*MHA - CNA not required.
