Reporting to the Controller, you will support critical accounting functions and assist in maintaining timely and accurate financial reporting. You will play a key role in optimizing and improving accounting processes and systems, contributing to the scalability of our accounting function. The Assistant Controller will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless financial operations in our high-growth environment.


The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with a strong foundation in financial accounting and operations. You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrive in a collaborative environment. You have excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset, capable of operating effectively in both independent and team settings


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and financial reporting
  • Assist in managing the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses
  • Help develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and ensure timely completion
  • Work with extensive data sets to reconcile historical financial transactions across various systems
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations and reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with state Dept of Transportation and motor vehicle filing and reporting requirements
  • Coach and mentor finance department staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives and to resolve issues timely
  • Support the Controller and CFO, providing critical financial data and analysis to aid in strategic planning and decision-making


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting: CPA certification preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for experience in a dealership environment (construction or automotive)
  • Ability to reconcile complicated transactions
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to build relationships, both within the organization and external and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
