Job Description

Onggi is an upscale casual Korean restaurant that will be located in the vibrant neighborhood of Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. Our 2,000-square-foot space will accommodate 60 seats, offering an intimate yet inviting dining experience. The restaurant is slated to open in the Spring of 2025.

Inspired by a desire to share the rich flavors and traditions of Korean cuisine, we aim to create a space where the local community and visitors from around the world can gather and enjoy authentic Korean dishes. We hope to offer an experience that captures the warmth and essence of traditional Korean food.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Lead Line Cook  to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a background in Korean cuisine and, preferably, the ability to communicate in both Korean and English. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items, leading a team of cooks, and maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness. You will work closely with the Executive Chef to prepare and execute dishes according to our menu, ensuring consistency and a high-quality dining experience.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and coordinate activities across all kitchen stations during service.
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to provided recipes and guidelines, ensuring appropriate taste, presentation, and quality.
  • Monitor food preparation processes and ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and supervising line and prep cooks.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and other kitchen staff to resolve any issues during service and maintain smooth kitchen operations.
  • Manage station setup and breakdown, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Track inventory and assist in ordering supplies.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications:

  • Food safety and sanitation certified.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience as a lead line cook or in a similar role, with strong preference for experience in Korean cuisine.
  • Experience or a strong interest in working as a pastry chef or with desserts is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English is preferred.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of fundamental cooking techniques and recipes.
  • Excellent leadership and communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work night, weekend, and holiday hours.
