Job Description

About ASA of AZ:

The American Subcontractors Association of Arizona (ASA of AZ) is seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead our growing association.

ASA of AZ is part of a national organization with around 2,500 members. Our local chapter is one of the largest and most innovative in the country, and we aim to become the premier association unifying the subcontracting community in Arizona. We believe the skilled trades are the backbone of the construction industry. We are proud of our members and will take every opportunity to showcase their success. Our staff, board, and volunteers work hard to provide them with the resources they need to win the day.

We’ve recently been nominated for a Best of the Capitol Award by the AZ Capitol Times and listed this year as one of the Top 20 Largest Trade Associations in Phoenix by the Phoenix Business Journal. Our outgoing Executive Director is a 2024 Public Policy Leader of the Year award winner, and was included in AZ Big Media’s 50 People to Watch in 2025.

Our other staff members are also top-notch—we currently employ a full-time Membership Specialist and a part-time Events Coordinator.

In other words, this is an association where an enthusiastic leader can shine!

Role & Duties:

  • Organize and direct association operations in conformity with policies established by the board of directors
  • Actively participate in the chapter’s strategic planning efforts, and empower board members, committees, staff, and partners to achieve our strategic goals
  • Supervise and actively participate in the sale of chapter sponsorships
  • Supervise and actively participate in an effective program of member recruitment and engagement
  • Supervise and ensure the profitability of our many chapter events
  • Oversee ASA of AZ's educational programs, and ensure that they are responsive to member needs
  • Prepare, administer, and control the association's budget
  • Promote ASA of AZ and its members to the industry and community at both national and local levels
  • Serve as liaison to ASA National, other construction associations, the media, and government
  • Recruit, hire, and train staff as needed
  • Advise and provide timely information, reports, and documentation to the officers of the board in compliance with bylaws

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record as a nonprofit leader
  • An ability to evaluate and form strategic partnerships
  • Familiarity with government affairs/advocacy at the state and local level
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • An ability to lead and inspire staff members as part of a close-knit team
  • A track record of finding common ground and building community among disparate stakeholders
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Teams, and QuickBooks Online
  • Exposure to/understanding of the construction industry is ideal

Timeline:

Our current Executive Director will be stepping away in May, and is willing to work with the new hire for up to 30 days to help them transition in smoothly. Our goal is to have someone hired for the position by April 7th, 2025.

Salary will be $85-$100k per year, DOE.
