Job Description

Before responding, please review all the details outlined below. This position plays a vital role in addressing the environmental impact and devastation caused by the Palisade wildfires in LA County.


Position: Environmental Unit Leader (Wildfire Responder)

Location: LA County

Duration : 6 month contract-to-hire pending performance

Start Date: February 17th

Pay Rate: $23-45/hr (dependent based on years of experience)

Hours: Seeking candidates dedicated to working 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts. (Could potentially become 6 days a week and every Sunday off.)

Mobilization and Expenses: Client will provide travel, per diem, and housing accommodations when on travel, unless local to the site.

Safety Equipment: All necessary safety equipment will be provided, except for steel-toed boots and prescription safety goggles (if applicable.)


Day to Day:

Environmental Unit Leader's will be working on our client's site assessments around LA County in support of the Palisades wildfires. All field personnel will be required to wear PPE and trained to assess burned property, measure ash footprints, and conduct hazardous material surveys. This person will be working with propane tanks and marking utilities. They will conduct a radiation and mercury screen while on site, and all data collection will be done on tablets. Work will then shift to air and soil sampling, where this person will be trained to collect asbestos air samples, surface soil samples, heavy metal samples, beryllium, and mercury samples. Additionally, field technicians will be assisting Asbestos assessment teams.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Active HAZWOPER 40 and 8 hour refresher is applicable - certificates need to be provided
  • BS/BA degree in environmental or engineering (biologist, enviro engineer, chemical engineer, etc.)
  • Associates Degree will be considered by client if environmental experience is strong
  • 2+ years of environmental experience (environmental remediation or environmental assessment- soil, air, groundwater, etc.)
  • Ability to work 60+ hours a week
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Requires passing a motor vehicle record (MVR) background check and maintaining a safe driving record.
  • Medically cleared to wear a respirator
