Cloud Engineer - Hybrid 3 days/week in Mill Creek, WA
Pay Range: $55-70/hr
The primary role of the Cloud Systems Engineer will be to lead the transition of previously on-premise workloads to cloud-based infrastructure, acting as a SME on design, orchestration, support for new services. The candidate will be responsible for optimizing existing tenants within Azure/AWS, and lead the deployment for PaaS/IaaS systems. Candidate will work closely with internal and external development teams to build out needed resources for ongoing and future projects.
This individual must be a highly effective communicator (both verbal and written) and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. A service-oriented attitude with the ability to multi-task, organize and re-reprioritize work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment are essential traits. The prospective candidate is a self-starter, performing day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision but working effectively with immediate and cross-functional team members.
Daily Responsibilities
- Lead the optimization of existing Azure Account(s) and ensure tenant is configured to best-practices (Network, Security, Storage, Database and Compute)
- Configure and Support existing workloads and setup new resources to handle additional requirements from the Development teams
- Collaborate with development teams to support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Review technical design documents and provide guidance on system architecture
- Provision, configure, refresh and maintain cloud environments needed for Development and Operation teams
- Work with Security and Compliance teams to ensure policy requirements are adhered to
- Provide regular analysis of system and service performance and make recommendations for improvement or redesign as needed
- Create, update and maintain documentation to reflect changes to the IT infrastructure
- Develop orchestration needed to scale infrastructure resources
- Design and execute test plans to ensure solution integrity and production readiness
- Assist with Disaster Recovery readiness and ensure business continuity is maintained
- Ensures consistent, timely, and effective response for all technical incidents/tickets reported by customers.
- Provide post-mortem support to determine the root cause of service interruptions and make recommendations on changes needed to prevent a recurrence
- Provide cross-functional leadership within IT, providing support for other engineers and service/support teams. Provide infrastructure support for Development teams.
- Manage and maintain relationships with external vendors as required.
- Continually review new technologies, document findings, conduct pilots and evaluate multiple vendors, make recommendations, and develop business cases to justify the investment.
Must-Haves
- 3 + Years in an Infrastructure Engineering role in a Windows Environment
- 2 + Years of On-Premises/IaaS Infrastructure design, administration, support – including creating automation for workflows and templates (Terraform, PowerShell, Python, Bash, Orchestration)
- 2 + Years supporting Azure services, including Entra/AD, DevOps, PowerApps, PowerBI and Azure Kubernetes Service
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) for automated provisioning and configuration
- Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates)
- Industry Certifications (Azure, AWS, MCP, MCSE, CCNP, CCNA) are a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS Systems Engineering and Architecture
- Program Management skillset – technical acumen, project management savvy, superb communication skills, highly responsive to clients, attention to detail, and operational follow-through are all required qualities for this position
- Knowledge of service management experience utilizing ITIL v.3 or similar service management processes
- Vendor management experience leveraging SLA and KPI metrics to drive results
- Team-Focused work style and desire to mentor other team members to continually improve the delivery of services to our customers
- Strong, professional communication skills, both verbal and written, including the skill in articulating and translating technical language to non-technical customers
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field or equivalent work experience
