Job Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Specialist plays a crucial role in the efficient and secure handling of all incoming and outgoing shipments within the operations of a life science company. This position ensures the timely processing of materials, equipment, and supplies essential for research and operational activities. Key Responsibilities
Receiving Operations:
- Inspect and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, condition, and compliance with purchase orders and shipping documents.
- Unload deliveries, ensuring proper handling of sensitive and hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
- Record and track all received items using inventory management systems.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal departments to resolve discrepancies or issues related to shipments.
Shipping Operations:
- Prepare and package outgoing shipments, ensuring proper labeling and documentation for timely and accurate delivery.
- Schedule and oversee pick-up and delivery services, maintaining communication with carriers to track shipments.
- Ensure all outgoing materials comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Gas Cylinder Management:
- Oversee the receipt, storage, and issuance of gas cylinders, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of gas cylinders for integrity, proper labeling, and certification status.
- Manage inventory levels of gas cylinders, including tracking usage, ordering replacements, and disposing of expired or damaged cylinders safely.
- Coordinate with safety officers and laboratory personnel to ensure proper handling and usage of gas cylinders.
- Maintain accurate records of gas cylinder inventories, including tracking locations and maintaining compliance documentation.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of supplies and equipment, conducting regular audits and cycle counts.
- Coordinate with procurement and laboratory teams to replenish stock and manage storage solutions.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols related to the handling of biological, chemical, and hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized shipping and receiving area to promote a safe working environment.
- Stay updated on relevant regulations and best practices in shipping, receiving, and inventory management within the life sciences sector.
Administrative Duties:
- Prepare and maintain shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, and invoices.
- Respond to alarms within the laboratory to notify the responsible party
- Provide support to other departments as needed, facilitating smooth operational workflows.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in shipping and receiving, preferably within a laboratory or life sciences environment.
- Familiarity with procurement software
Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to handling hazardous materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Certifications:
- Department of Transportation Hazmat Shipper Certification
- OSHA certification or equivalent is a plus.
