Job Purpose:

National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) is currently seeking a Human Resources Director based in its Ann Arbor, Michigan headquarters. NCMS is the nation’s leading technology consortium that accelerates the development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities to drive American competitiveness.

Reporting to the CHRO, you’ll be an integral part of a dynamic and high-energy HR team, working hands-on to support our organization’s goals. Our HR Department prides itself on being a resource and support hub, focused on service—not just enforcing policies!


Essential Functions:

Lead and manage the entire recruitment process, including job postings, screenings, assessments, interviews, and hiring, for both on-site and remote roles. Collaborate with hiring managers to identify essential skills and qualifications for open roles and actively seek out high caliber candidates.

Develop, review, and maintain accurate job descriptions for current and future roles, ensuring alignment with department and company objectives.

Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, staying current with evolving regulations and recommended practices. Regularly review and update policies to maintain compliance.

Identify training needs, design, and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.

Mentor the HR team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.

Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs, including but not limited to employee relations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.

Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

Lead and support employee engagement activities, such as organizing lunch-and-learn sessions, wellness initiatives, recognition programs, and community volunteer opportunities.

Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related inquiries, benefits, policies, and procedures.

Responsible for continual improvement projects and review as they apply to the department.


Requirements:

Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must hold or be eligible to obtain government security clearance.

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless legally exempt.

Must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7-10 years prior HR Management experience. SHRM certification preferred.

Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.

Outstanding verbal and written skills.

Strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving abilities.

Extensive knowledge of human resources processes and best practices.

Customer service focus with both external and internal customers.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.

Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite.
