We are seeking a skilled and experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement operations and manage a team of purchasing professionals in a fast-paced supplement manufacturing organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing high-quality raw materials, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and in-depth knowledge of supply chain management, particularly in the dietary supplements or pharmaceutical industries.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement Management
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with the organization’s goals and production needs.
- Identify and source high-quality raw materials and ingredients to meet regulatory and production standards.
- Negotiate and manage supplier contracts to secure optimal pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
- Analyze market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate supply risks.
- Implement effective internal controls. Analyze stock reports to identify areas of excess and areas of need.
- Establish departmental guidelines and policies to support accurate production related entries in company’s system for proper costing and invoicing.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of purchasing professionals, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, promoting skill development and growth within the team.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
- Evaluate and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality standards and timely deliveries.
- Address and resolve supplier-related issues, including delivery delays or quality discrepancies.
Operational Excellence
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and sales, to align procurement with production schedules.
- Provide information to internal customers for pricing proposals
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, such as FDA, GMP, and other industry standards.
- Oversee procurement budgets and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience, with at least 2 years in a management role, preferably in the supplement, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing industries.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of driving team performance.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain management principles and procurement best practices.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance in the supplement or pharmaceutical industries.
