The client is a fast growing veterinary care hospital system that has 15 locations (and growing) throughout northern California.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Leader to join our growing team. As the HR Leader, you will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that support our business objectives and foster a positive and productive work environment for our employees. You will play a critical role leading talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and benefits administration, while ensuring compliance with all applicable employment laws.
Role Overview
The HR Leader will report directly to the CEO and be an integral member of the leadership team, responsible for HR and Talent Acquisition. This highly hands-on role requires strategic vision coupled with the ability to lead and execute impactful people programs. The HR leader will be responsible for developing and optimizing processes for scale, ensuring compliance, driving cultural initiatives, and enhancing the overall experience for employees.
This is a hybrid position. Time will be spent between our HQ in Oakland, CA, remote work, and onsite time with employees at our locations in Northern California.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic HR Leadership:
- Lead and implement comprehensive people strategies that drive and support the business goals while promoting a high-performing, inclusive culture.
- Actively collaborate with the CEO and leadership team as a strategic partner, delivering actionable insights and data driven guidance on all people related matters.
- Build and manage HR budgets, including tracking key metrics, preparing reports and presentations on HR performance. Create impactful, scalable, compliant, and user friendly people programs/processes.
- Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Talent Acquisition:
- Oversee the full recruitment cycle, from sourcing and interviewing to onboarding.
- Develop effective recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent in the veterinary field.
Employee Relations:
- Provide a high touch HR experience to employees and managers.
- Provide a high level of internal customer relations, ensuring timely, accurate and
helpful responses are provided to all inquiries.
- Act as the primary contact for employee concerns, conflict, and grievances; conduct thorough investigations and offer fair resolutions in compliance with labor laws.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to refine and administer all people-related programs such as employee relations, compliance, policy management, LOA management, performance management, employee development plans, and coaching to drive engagement and productivity.
- Oversee and optimize employee life cycle processes to create a high performing and positive workplace culture. Ensure concierge level onboarding and off boarding programs.
Performance Management:
- Develop and implement a performance management system that drives employee development and accountability.
- Provide guidance and training to managers on performance management best practices
- Oversee the performance review process and ensure timely and constructive feedback is provided to employees.
Requirements:
- 7-10+ years of California-based HR experience with significant time spent overseeing Employee Relations requests and meeting Talent Acquisition goals.
- Multi-site healthcare experience with diversity of employee type.
- Expert level knowledge and practical experience with Federal and California specific wage & hour, LOA & accommodations and all other employment policies.
- Direct management experience
- Experience building and managing people programs and processes for scale.
- Technical literacy, a savvy and curious mindset with expert level experience managing HRIS systems. Experience with Google Workspace is a plus.
- Comfort producing results while navigating ambiguity.
