Position Purpose: General Job Description: Perform nursing duties in the support of patient care within the department necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of inpatients and/or outpatients undergoing diagnostic and invasive procedures. Delivers basic to advanced nursing care to patients in Interventional Radiology (IR), Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac Cath Lab, and EP Lab. Administers medications, provides conscious sedation, and intra-procedural monitoring of patients status while undergoing procedures in IR, non-invasive Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine, Cath Lab, and EP Lab. Actively involved with assessment, planning, care, and education of patients and staff who undergo diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within the department; willing to learn and/or expand skills in the insertion and management of advanced vascular access. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, departmental protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.

Key Job Activities: • Assesses the patient to determine the appropriate patient care support needed, presence of contraindications, the need for sedation and any other medically relevant patient need for performance of diagnostic and/or invasive procedures.
• Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during and after the procedure in order to reduce the patient's and family's anxiety and enhance his/her comfort zone with tolerance of the procedure.
• Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, and age-specific sensitivities.
• Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
• Initiates and maintains patency of IV lines for administration of fluids and medications. Administers medications in accordance with physicians medication's written orders. Documents all medications administrated in the patient chart.
• Identifies, recommends, and seeks approval for the administration of narcotics to decrease the patient's anxiety and to provide pain control to facilitate the performance of and optimal procedure. Administers sedation as medically ordered, directed, and as needed.

• Assesses and monitors patients consistent with department conscious sedation protocols; and notifies physicians as required of changes in the patient's condition.
• Documents all procedures performed in the patient's medical record and in departmental records. Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and testing information.
• Maintains medication inventory. Secures all medications in accordance with regulatory requirements. Demonstrates proper use of Omnicell per hospital policy.
• Maintains narcotics, pharmaceutical stock, and all related documentation. Monitors chart patient progress and complications, record it as needed. Performs nursing duties and procedures in accordance with the principles of safe practice and ethical conduct.
• Participates in the formal and informal process of improvement and problem-solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.
• May a resource for vascular access. Performs the insertion of all PICC or midline catheters as ordered by a physician using sterile technique. Evaluates and maintains all types of vascular access as necessary, document insertion and ongoing maintenance as per protocol.
• Cross trains and demonstrates an ability to perform in every function of the department within the designated scope of practice.
• May rotate across the system, including Mount Sinai Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. This includes shift flexibility as well as willingness to cover PTO, call-ins, and emergencies.
• Participates in the On Call Program for emergency Interventional Lab procedures on a rotating basis, Participating to be within the premises and ready to work within thirty (60) minutes of the initial page as defined by the department.
• Participates in the On Call Program for emergency Cardiac Cath Lab procedures on Participating basis, expected to be within the premises and ready to work within thirty (30) minutes of the initial page as defined by the department.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Work Experience:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required, bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
• Six months of clinical experience in one of the following areas is required, preferably in CCU, ED, Adult Critical Care, or Telemetry. Knowledge and Skills:
• Experience Preferred in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems. Certifications/Licenses: • Licensed Professional Nurse by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of employment
