Position Duties and Responsibilities: Ultrasound Technologists shall be able to – • Work cooperatively with Radiologic Technologists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Residents, Advanced Practice Nurses (APN), Nurse Practitioners (NP), Registered Nurses (RN), and Physician Assistants (PA), and a variety of allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive health care services to VA inpatient and outpatients. • Function as a full team member of the interdisciplinary service team at the FHCC. The Radiology Department at FHCC utilizes 100% digital imaging and storage system (PACS Environment). • Perform a broad range of high quality, diagnostic ultrasound scans for FHCC patients including pediatric, adult and adult geriatric. Examinations to be performed include but are not limited to: General Ultrasound examinations such as thyroid, abdomen, pelvis, retroperitoneal, scrotum, testicular, transvaginal, and first trimester fetal; breast US examinations; vascular Doppler imaging including ankle-brachial indices and other examinations utilizing Photo-Plethysmorgraphy (PPG); and doppler ultrasound examinations of the carotid arteries, upper and lower extremity vasculature, and abdominal vasculature. • Process images for interpretation. Begin and complete exams in Oracle/Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications as necessary. Scans necessary documentation, edits, and completes exams in PACS. Ensure the after-hours radiologist service has received adequate and pertinent ultrasound images to provide a diagnostic interpretation prior to departure, if necessary. • Maintain records according to the FHCC protocol of patients examined, studies performed, views taken, and technical factors used. • Maintain equipment and reporting any equipment malfunctions to the Ultrasound Supervisor. • Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and equipment. • Recognize emergency situations relative to the ultrasound environment and exercise initiative in resolving. Use good judgment in carrying out emergency measures and procedures for obtaining medical assistance. • Be alert to the needs of the patient and detect any changes in conditions and/or emergencies that may arise. • Describe imaging procedures to patients to encourage their cooperation and lower their anxieties relative to examinations performed. • Maintain and promote patient privacy while providing care as well as strict confidentiality of patient information and records. • Perform his/her duties and function with integrity and appropriate ethical behavior in accordance with ethical standards of nationally recognized professional organizations. BUSINESS HOURS The business hours of the FHCC Radiology Department are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. WORK SCHEDULE: • The normal work schedule will be 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, Monday – Friday. The shift will be from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This 8-hour shift includes a mandatory ½ hour non-paid lunch break. If patient care needs prevent the ability to take a 30-minute lunch, the Ultrasound Supervisor must be notified during the said shift to provide coverage or authorize no lunch. • Although unlikely, overtime may be necessary and is applicable for anything over 40 hours in a one week pay period worked at the FHCC. Overtime must be pre-approved by the Ultrasound Supervisor and will not be allowed for contractor staff to complete charting in the medical record. All patient documentation must be completed prior to leaving for the day. No on-call services are required. • Contractor staff must contact the contractor regarding any absences, requests for time off, changes in scheduling availability, etc. The contractor will, in turn, contact the FHCC. Additionally, if contractor staff are unable to make it to a scheduled shift or will be late, they shall notify the Ultrasound Supervisor as soon as possible so that alternate staffing arrangements can be made. • The missing of two scheduled shifts ( "no call/no show”) by contractor staff may be grounds to restrict/cease that individual from being scheduled for future shifts or request removal. • Cancellations: Unless a state of emergency has been declared or services are otherwise cancelled by the FHCC, the Contractor shall be responsible for providing services. QUALIFICATIONS OF PERSONNEL: • Personnel assigned by the contractor to perform the services shall have a full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. The qualifications of such personnel shall also be subject to review by the FHCC Chief of Staff and approved by the FHCC Facility Director. • Contractor staff must have an ARRT-US license or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification and at least one year of experience performing general and vascular ultrasound examinations • Personnel assigned by the contractor to perform the services covered by this task order shall be proficient in written and spoken English • Contractor staff shall have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by a provider recognized by the American Heart Association. • Contractor's staff must be computer literate as patient documentation is directly inputted in the patient's electronic medical record. Proficiency in the use of the FHCC's EHR system, Oracle/ Cerner, is preferred. FHCC will provide training on the EHR.
