About the Role
We seek a Communications Lead to guide the Academy for the Love of Learning’s (ALL) communications function, help shape its vision, and oversee the creation of consistent, compelling messages across all platforms so we may better enroll our audiences in our mission and work. This individual will manage the communications team, which includes one direct report, a potential future hire, and contractors as needed. The Lead will partner with program/project leads to highlight impactful stories, align initiatives with communication strategies, ensure the organization’s key themes and messages are woven through program communications, and drive audience engagement through social media, newsletters, and video and audio content development.
Additionally, the Lead will manage the communications budget, resource allocation, and the ongoing development of a long-term strategic plan. This role requires a blend of creative vision, leadership, and a strong understanding of communications strategy to drive ALL's impact and engagement.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in brand strategy and communications, along with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. We are looking for someone who can manage daily communications tasks and long-term strategic goals, engage diverse audiences, and collaborate effectively across functions to amplify the work of ALL.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in areas related to communications, marketing, or journalism
At least 8 years of marketing, brand, and communications experience
Previous experience managing a communications team or department
Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities and handle multiple projects and deadlines
Experience with both daily communications production and communications and brand strategy
Ability to create consistent narratives, messaging, and storytelling across initiatives
Expertise in social media and digital strategy, content creation, and community engagement
Familiarity with the production of video, audio, and graphics
Preferred
Master’s Degree
Copywriting experience
Previous experience working within a leadership team at a nonprofit
More than 10 years of marketing, brand, and communications experience
Responsibilities:
Communication Function Leadership: The Communications Lead will oversee the communications function, advocating for its needs while managing team members, guiding hiring efforts, and ensuring that resources and budgets are allocated effectively. This role will collaborate closely with organizational leadership to shape and execute a cohesive vision and strategy for our communications and brand, reflecting the central role that Communications plays in advancing ALL’s mission and organizational strategy. As a key architect of ALL's storytelling, the Communications Lead will work to develop compelling narratives across all audience touchpoints, grounded in a deep understanding of ALL’s work. This leader will keep the team informed through regular communications-focused updates and provide strategic guidance and support to program leads, ensuring alignment and clarity in all communication efforts.
Communications Strategy: The Communications Lead will monitor the effectiveness of all communication efforts, providing regular updates and insights to organizational leadership and the team. They will contribute a communications perspective to broader organizational strategy and planning, seeking alignment with ALL’s goals. This role will also develop and lead the implementation of a dynamic, long-term communications strategic plan that brings audiences into our work and drives impact for our community.
Brand Strategy: The Communications Lead will oversee and maintain a strong and consistent brand foundation, ensuring that all communications align with core messaging. They will establish and uphold a unified voice and tone across all platforms, reinforcing the organization’s identity and values. This role will also review and refine the channel strategy to optimize communication effectiveness, adapting as needed to best reach and engage target audiences.
Partnership with Programs, Projects, and Initiatives: The Communications Lead will collaborate with program/project leads to identify and share compelling stories, helping to amplify their impact. By understanding the unique needs of each team, they’ll uncover storytelling opportunities and ensure upcoming initiatives align with the overall communications
