Job Description

The Estimating Team in the Project Services Department is responsible for delivering complete, accurate, and timely estimates to both external and internal customers for our Engineered Products. As a member of this team, the Estimator plays a pivotal customer-facing role, focusing on providing accurate quotes and estimates. This position ensures that requests for quotes (RFQs) are processed efficiently using established tools and procedures. The Estimator maintains consistent communication with project stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer satisfaction. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and product knowledge to produce precise and effective quotes.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Analyze drawings, project specifications, and other client documentation to prepare accurate project estimates.
  • Evaluate project scopes to align with product capabilities.
  • Identify production factors that influence product costs.
  • Review RFQs for completeness and notify requestors of missing data.
  • Prepare material estimates and quotes to maximize project margins while remaining competitive.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors for project bids.
  • Manage multiple project bids simultaneously.
  • Support the Project Management team with RFIs, change orders, and revise material quotes.
  • Assist the Engineering team in creating clear and efficient project drawings.
  • Proactively update stakeholders and leadership on project progress, challenges, risks, and recommendations.
  • Communicate project status and updates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with architects and designers to understand project design intent and apply this knowledge to products.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance communication, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Foster collaboration with internal stakeholders to drive organizational improvements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on products through continuous education and team engagement.
  • Accept accountability for project results and differentiate between fault and responsibility.
  • Provide internal stakeholders with market-based pricing insights.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to identify promotional opportunities and assist in material creation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Experience:


  • 5+ years of estimating experience in the building products manufacturing or construction industry, OR
  • A related field, with 3+ years of estimating experience.
  • Experience with metal fabrication in building products is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to develop practical solutions for complex problems.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural/engineering drawings, project documents.
  • Service-oriented with a sales-driven mindset.
  • Capacity to manage ambiguity and complexity effectively.
  • Creative problem-solving with resourceful approaches to challenges.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to dust.
