We are currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced Permanent Controller to join our dynamic Engineering team. This role is a critical part of our financial management team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and management. The successful candidate will have a strong background in GAAP, GAAS, and other accounting best practices. This role will also require a deep understanding of project and government accounting principles, indirect cost pool processes, and cost allocation. The ideal candidate will have experience working with nonprofit organizations, including compliance requirements for government grants and contracts.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, GAAS, and other accounting best practices.
- Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, and assist with audit preparation.
- Manage single audits and ensure adherence to uniform guidance (2 CFR 200), FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation 31), and CAS (Government Cost Accounting Standards).
- Design and optimize accounting systems, leveraging technology for efficiency.
- Supervise and build high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Implement and optimize financial systems and controls, and drive process improvement and organizational change management.
- Present complex financial information to various stakeholders, boards, and leadership teams.
- Ensure compliance requirements for nonprofit organizations, including government grants and contracts, are met.
- Recruit, train, and retain high-performing teams, setting goals and promoting a culture of accountability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Engineering industry.
- Proficient knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, accounting best practices, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and management.
- Experience with single audits, project and government accounting principles, indirect cost pool processes, cost allocation, uniform guidance (2 CFR 200), FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation 31), CAS (Government Cost Accounting Standards).
- Familiarity with Compliance requirements for nonprofit organizations including government grants and contracts.
- Proficiency in Costpoint and experience designing and optimizing accounting systems.
- Proven supervisory and team-building experience, with the ability to foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Strong financial analysis skills, with experience implementing and optimizing financial systems and controls.
- Experience with process improvement and organizational change management.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to various stakeholders, boards, and leadership teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Public Accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and 990 information returns.
- Familiarity with Federal Government contracts and cost principles.
