Job Overview We are seeking a skilled and proactive
Network/Data Center Engineer to take ownership of implementing and managing network monitoring and alerting systems within a virtualized environment. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience with Cisco and Client switches, VMware networking, and network monitoring tools, alongside expertise in handling BGP routing, load balancing, and managing legacy equipment like Nexus 48k switches. As we phase out older equipment, you will also play a key role in the modernization and optimization of our network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities - Network Monitoring & Tool Implementation :
- nalyze the environment and recommend a comprehensive network monitoring tool for the virtualized environment, transitioning from a log-based system to a full-featured monitoring and alerting platform.
- Implement and manage new monitoring tool.
- Configure and fine-tune network monitoring tools for real-time alerting and performance tracking across the network and virtualized environment.
- Ensure that monitoring solutions are integrated with various network devices and virtualized infrastructure for visibility and proactive issue management.
- Switch Administration & Network Infrastructure :
- dminister Cisco and Client switch infrastructure, managing configurations, updates, and troubleshooting for both legacy and current network systems.
- Oversee the phased decommissioning and replacement of older Nexus 48k and Client switches, ensuring minimal disruption to network services.
- Provide virtual support for network connectivity and performance issues within the data center environment.
- Network Configuration & Routing :
- Configure and maintain Cisco-based network routing protocols, including BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) , ensuring the efficient operation of both internal and external network connectivity.
- ssist in the design and optimization of network topologies and routing strategies to support current and future business needs.
- VMware & Virtual Networking Management :
- dminister VMware virtualized environments, including configuring virtual switches, network adapters, and other network-related components within VMware.
- Optimize virtual networking for both security and performance within the data center environment.
- Manage network configurations in a virtualized environment, ensuring seamless integration between physical and virtual network infrastructure.
- Load Balancing & Network-Level Monitoring :
- Implement and manage Nginx load balancers to optimize application traffic distribution, ensuring high availability and scalability.
- Set up monitoring and alerting on network-level components, including load balancers, switches, and virtualized networking environments.
- Security & Compliance :
- Ensure the network infrastructure adheres to security best practices, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and network segmentation.
- Work with other teams to implement and enforce network security policies and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Documentation :
- Document network configurations, monitoring setups, troubleshooting procedures, and infrastructure changes.
Qualifications - Education :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience :
- 4+ years of experience in network engineering, data center management, or a similar role, with a strong focus on monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network infrastructures.
- Experience with VMware virtual networking , including configuring virtual switches and adapting network configurations within virtual environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Client switches , including Nexus 48k, and managing network configurations, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience in implementing network-level monitoring and alerting systems.
- Experience with Nginx load balancers is highly desirable.
- Certifications :
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher-level Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNP) is required.
- dditional certifications in VMware (e.g., VCP) or Network Monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios) are advantageous.
- Skills :
- Strong knowledge of network monitoring tools, configuration management, and performance monitoring systems.
- Expertise in network routing protocols, particularly BGP, and the configuration of enterprise-grade switches and routers.
- Hands-on experience with virtualized environments (VMware) , virtual networking, and related technologies.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills in a networked environment with the ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Familiarity with Nginx and other load balancing solutions is a plus.
