Summary:
This is a one-person operation, and the editor is responsible for all aspects of print and digital content production. Just as important is a comprehensive understanding of the Jewish Journal readership and the community it aims to reach.
What you will do:

• Plan four weekly zoned editions
• Select and process appropriate content from national, international, and local sources
• Edit freelance content
• Meet print production deadlines and coordinate with production editors
• Post stories online throughout the week and grow digital traffic
• Promote content through social media and a weekly newsletter
• Write briefs, stories and/or columns
• Be an ambassador in the community for the Jewish Journal

What you will bring:

• One to three years of journalism experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
• Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
• Understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
• Ability to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary or if news requires
• A degree in journalism or communication preferred
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

The Jewish Journal is a publication of the South Florida Sun Sentinel that is distributed free to synagogues, Jewish owned businesses and communities in north Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Conditions of Employment:

• Travel - This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, training sessions, and/or in-person meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
• Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
