We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Scientist to join our Consumer and Market Insights (CMI) team, focusing on kitchen appliances. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in extracting and analyzing data to drive insights that shape product strategies and consumer engagement. This position combines expertise in web scraping, data visualization, social media analytics, and collaboration with the CMI leader to deliver actionable insights.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Work with the design and consumer research teams to develop innovative solutions for the Refrigeration group of products using machine learning and statistical methods
- Clean, process, and analyze review data to identify trends, consumer sentiments, and improvement opportunities for kitchen appliances.
- Develop and implement web scraping tools to gather online reviews and feedback from multiple platforms (e.g., Amazon, Best Buy, Google Reviews).
- Conduct social media listening to track brand mentions, competitor activity, and emerging consumer preferences across channels.
- Use findings of data mining to help give feedback to the R&D teams on improvement actions and future planning to improve reviews
- Build tool to help engineers to mine patent search results to help reduce the relevant patents based on key words
- Collaborate and support with CMI team to interpret data findings from quantitative and qualitative data sets and align them with business objectives.
- Design and maintain interactive dashboards using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Python to visualize key performance indicators, consumer feedback, and trends.
- Research state-of-the-art tools and techniques in data science and help integrate them into our development process
- Work with cross-functional teams to help build sales tools that highlight various outputs from large datasets – including, but not limited to, sales and rebate incentives, competitive analysis, product inventory & location, service & quality data, etc.
- Looks for opportunities within the business to use their skillsets to improve processes within the team
- Ability to meet with customers/potential customers to discuss product reviews and ratings and help answer questions about their process
- Ability to travel domestically & internationally
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science or similar field.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with technical teams
- At least 1-2 years of experience with data mining on consumer products reviews and consumer insights analysis.
- Proficiency in web scraping tools and techniques (e.g., Beautiful Soup, Scrapy, Selenium).
- Strong experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, Tableau, Power BI).
- Knowledge of social media analytics tools (e.g., Brandwatch, Sprinklr, Talkwalker) and sentiment analysis techniques.
- Excellent Excel and data manipulation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics or similar field from an accredited university
- History of working with global colleagues
- Previous co-op experience with Midea is strongly recommended.
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP) for sentiment and text analysis.
- Familiarity with consumer insights and market research methodologies.
- Background in working with kitchen appliances or consumer goods industries.
