Job summary:

Postdoc in UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery and Brain Tumor Center studying tumor vasculature using cutting-edge computational and experimental methods.

Job description:

The Oldham Lab at UCSF ( is searching for a postdoc  to play a leading role in the identification and exploitation of molecular abnormalities of tumor vasculature using novel computational and experimental strategies. The successful candidate will be comfortable at the computer and the bench and will work with a team of collaborators with diverse expertise to identify novel vascular targets, produce novel diagnostic and therapeutic reagents, perform functional validation experiments, and draft manuscripts for publication. This is an NIH-funded, five-year position.

Responsibilities

This individual will be primarily responsible for overseeing multiscale (bulk, single-nucleus, and spatial) analysis of gene expression data from human tissue samples. Typical bioinformatic tasks will include preprocessing, normalization, and network analysis of sequencing data.  More complex bioinformatic tasks will include multiscale integration and modeling. This individual will work closely with other lab members and collaborators to develop and characterize novel reagents for targeting tumor vascular markers. Experiments will utilize mouse xenograft and allograft models, human cerebral organoid models, and 3D microfluidic human microvascular models. Other responsibilities will include preparing high-quality figures, presenting findings at seminars and scientific meetings, drafting manuscripts, and mentoring junior lab members.

Qualifications

Must possess a PhD in a biomedical field with one or more first-author publications. No postdoctoral experience is preferred but up one year of postdoctoral experience is acceptable. Relevant bioinformatic and bench experience are required. Applicants should possess a strong background in cancer research and/or vascular research, as well as proven expertise in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture . Neuroscience experience is also a plus. We seek a talented individual with excellent communication skills, a meticulous nature, a positive attitude, and a good sense of humor to join our team and perform world-class science in a beautiful location!
