The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC systems, production equipment, machinery, and plant facilities. This includes ensuring that the building, grounds, and production lines are maintained in optimal working condition. The role involves managing the maintenance team, handling cost control and departmental budgets, and leading capital project development and implementation. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Hires, trains, and evaluates maintenance department staff.
- Organizes, schedules, and oversees the daily work of maintenance staff.
- Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline of employees as needed, in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages day-to-day operations of the maintenance department, ensuring equipment and facilities are operational.
- Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance program for machinery, equipment, and plant facilities, including ground upkeep.
- Tracks maintenance downtime and works with Production and Safety Managers to minimize inefficiencies.
- Coordinates third-party contractor support as necessary for specialized maintenance needs.
- Prepares and manages the maintenance budget, including securing estimates and cost quotes for repairs and replacements.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates, maintaining up-to-date records for inspections and regulations.
- Promotes and enforces safety standards and housekeeping practices throughout the plant.
- Prepares maintenance reports for the Plant Manager and other relevant management personnel, offering recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborates with other plant managers to maintain existing facilities and equipment and recommends or implements necessary adjustments or replacements.
- Provides training to both new and existing maintenance staff.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of maintenance personnel and addresses employee performance concerns.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and production equipment maintenance and repair.
- Familiarity with tools and systems including frequency drives, programmable controllers, Allen Bradley, pneumatic systems, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Strong understanding of OSHA health and safety standards and compliance.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles, applying them to improve maintenance processes.
- Solid knowledge of production machinery and its integration with plant maintenance goals and objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong technical, leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic project management tools.
- Ability to motivate, train, and coach employees to achieve high performance.
- Ability to build and maintain strong, positive working relationships within the team and across departments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (related field).
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance or manufacturing environment, with a focus on leadership and team development.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform physical repairs when necessary.
- Ability to work on your feet for long periods, with repetitive actions that involve bending, stooping, twisting, lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to climb ladders and access confined or awkward spaces.
- Must be capable of lifting 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or pushing or pulling 10 to 20 pounds consistently.
