JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant General Counsel assists the Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary in the areas of products, marketing, employment, litigation (including regulatory enforcement and administrative hearings) and general corporate legal advice and strategy for the Kentucky Lottery Corporation (KLC). Supports the Legal Department and Executive Team with a variety of legal issues, including legal compliance and risk and general business and corporate matters; monitoring and managing litigation matters; advising the Sales, Products, Marketing, and IT departments on sales initiatives; drafting game and promotion rules and regulations, marketing, and other legal terms and conditions; assisting with iLottery (online gaming) issues; assisting and advising on customer service interactions; and assisting the HR Department with employment and benefits matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with outside counsel in addressing litigation and other matters filed in state or federal courts, administrative proceedings and hearings, Board hearings, and other legislative hearings as needed.
- Provides strategic legal advice and regulatory support to the KLC Executive team on a wide variety of products, sales, and marketing initiatives.
- Prepares game and promotion rules, amendments, and other consumer-facing legal terms of use and policies.
- Advises Sales Department regarding retailer sales initiatives and licensing matters.
- Advises Marketing Department regarding promotional concepts and promotion rules, lottery advertising concepts, intellectual property matters, digital and social media campaigns, and CRM.
- Advises Product Department regarding new iLottery initiatives and other lottery product initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Advises HR Department and Executive Management regarding employment and benefit matters and policies.
- Advises IT Department regarding project initiatives implicating cybersecurity and privacy matters.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate degree required.
- License to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or eligible for reciprocity based on licensing in another jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience with a law firm and/or private or state agency legal department in areas of general corporate, business law, and litigation. Experience with consumer products and ecommerce preferred. Experience with gaming or lottery not required, but preferred. Experience representing or appearing before state or federal agencies preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts to align cross-functional legal needs and priorities.
- Most possess analytical reasoning skills.
- Solid planning and organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines with proven attention-to-detail required.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, peers, and employees.
- Strong computer skills required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisor responsibilities.

Salary Range: Min: $121,500 – Mid: $157,900.
Our goal is to pay a competitive market salary for new employees, which is typically up to the midpoint of our pay ranges. However, final offers for all positions will be based on several factors such as experience level, education, skills and internal pay equity.
