Crybaby is a 500-capacity music venue in downtown Oakland, with a new 1,000-capacity sister venue named Ceremony opening in March of this year. We are seeking a Lighting Director to join our production team at Ceremony. The Lighting Director will be responsible for managing lighting control, designing lighting setups, implementing stage lighting, and overseeing rigging for events and performances at the venue. This is a part-time, as-needed position , ideal for someone with a flexible schedule who is committed to working weekends and select event nights.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary operator and programmer for the venue’s lighting system during assigned events.
- Collaborate with artists, tour lighting designers, and production teams to create visually engaging lighting designs that enhance performances.
- Ensure all lighting equipment is functioning properly before and after each event, troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues.
- Program and operate lighting consoles (Avolites, MA, Chamsys, or similar) during shows.
- Maintain and update venue lighting plots, patching, and presets as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on lighting equipment, including fixtures, cabling, and control systems.
- Work with the production team to ensure seamless integration of lighting with stage setups, video elements, and special effects.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices for rigging, power distribution, and equipment handling.
- Communicate effectively with venue management, stagehands, and artists to execute lighting needs efficiently.
- Assist in load-in and load-out processes, coordinating with visiting crews as needed.
- Provide post-show reports on lighting performance, technical issues, and equipment needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Lighting Director, Lighting Technician, or related role in a live music venue or touring environment.
- Proficiency in programming and operating lighting consoles.
- Strong understanding of DMX, networking, and intelligent lighting fixtures .
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair lighting and electrical issues under pressure.
- Knowledge of venue production workflows , including coordination with sound and stage teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to handle last-minute changes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with artists, production teams, and venue staff.
- Comfortable working at heights and with rigging equipment when necessary.
- Ability to work long hours, including late nights and weekends, in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with haze, lasers, or video integration in live events.
- Basic knowledge of power distribution and rigging safety .
- Familiarity with live music production and event logistics .
Compensation:
- Final hourly rate to be based on skills and experience.
