Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Position Overview
We seek a skilled and experienced Designer Discipline Technical Lead (DTL) to join our Monument Design Team. This role involves leading the design team in executing the Scope of Work (SOW) for assigned projects and ensuring all deliverables are completed on time, on budget, and in compliance with requirements. As the focal designer within an Integrated Project Team (IPT), the DTL will provide technical guidance, review deliverables, and support multiple projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D modeling and commercial aircraft monument design, as well as experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and manage a team of designers to execute the complete Scope of Work (SOW) for assigned projects.
- Subdivide tasks among team members, track progress and provide design support and direction.
- Verify that all project requirements, including export control compliance, are met.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation plans to maintain project timelines and budgets.
- Serve as the design DTL, coordinating with electrical engineers, stress engineers, flammability engineering, purchasing, operations, and program management.
Design Review & Execution
- Review and approve models, drawings, and documents as a Design Supervisor in Teamcenter.
- Conduct internal design reviews and support manufacturing, operations, and testing as needed.
- Support other DTL-led projects as a senior designer, providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Ensure design deliverables adhere to regulatory and customer requirements.
Technical Expertise & Collaboration
- Collaborate across multiple sites and departments to align project objectives and deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with team members, production employees, and external management.
- Investigate and propose innovative design solutions, creating simple mockups to validate concepts when necessary.
- Provide mentorship and support to team members to ensure high-quality output.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Expertise in 3D modeling and drafting, with experience in NX CAD (formerly Unigraphics) and Siemens Teamcenter.
- In-depth understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), Y14.100 standards, and performing tolerance stack-ups.
- Design experience with aircraft interior components, including sheet metal, machining, injection molding, vacuum forming, and 3D printing.
- Strong understanding of part production, assembly installation, and aviation regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with mechanisms and stress flow-through designs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
Basic Requirements
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) with a minimum of 5 years of product design experience.
- Advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
- In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant product design experience will be considered.
