Portale Restaurant is an upscale-casual Italian restaurant in the neighborhood of Chelsea led by Chef Alfred Portale, the James Beard award-winning chef and best-selling cookbook author. The Role
As a pastry cook, you are responsible for operating in the pastry section of the kitchen while working closely with the Executive Pastry Chef. You are to execute high quality pastry program that will impact the culinary experience at Portale
Schedule:
- Portale is dinner service only restaurant
- All shifts are PM shifts beginning at 2pm.
- Weekend availability is required
Responsibilities:
- Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread
- Follows proper DOH handling and right temperature of all food products.
- Decorate pastries and desserts using different types of icings, toppings etc. and ensure the food presentation will be beautiful and exciting.
- Assists with the day-to-day operations of the pastry kitchen
- Maintains exceptional cleanliness and maintains equipment to optimal specifications
- Support Executive Pastry Chef with creative and elevated pastries, desserts, and breads
- Passionate about and possesses great background knowledge of bread making, as well as classic baking techniques and procedures
- Leads by example, inspiring staff to deliver a memorable food experience
- Develops a strong rapport with teammates
- Under the direction of the Executive Pastry Chef initiates and executes special projects as required
Requirements and qualifications:
- 1+ years experience as a pastry cook or with similar responsibilities
- Able to lift 30+ pounds
- Fluent in both written and spoken English
- Must have basic math skills
- Maintain a friendly, helpful, and positive attitude at all times
- Polished personal presentation; Grooming meets Company standards, as outlined by Employee Handbook
- Communicates information effectively and efficiently
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal direction
- Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business
- Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions
- Ability to perform essential job functions under pressure and maintains professionalism when working under stress
- Attends mandatory staff meetings
- Adherence to company, state, and county sanitation standards
- Strict adherence to posted schedule and clock in/out at times
- Unpack, stock, & organize all items in and around the restaurant to maintain the highest level of cleanliness possible
- Perform all other related and compatible duties as assigned by the Management Team
- Adhere to all HR policies and procedures
