Key Staffing is seeking a CAD Designer to create detailed models and drawings of piping systems used in generation plants and/or a variety of construction or production projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The principal duties and responsibilities of the CAD Designer consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Designing complex 3D piping systems including oil, gas, air and electrical conduits using design and computer-aided design (CAD) software for generating plants and other industrial installations.
- Collaborating with the project team to determine project requirements and specifications.
- Reviewing and analyzing specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting piping designs and procedures.
- Providing technical support and guidance to team members.
- Creating detailed 3D models and drawings of piping systems for construction and manufacturing purposes.
- Conducting field surveys to gather information about project sites, materials, and equipment.
- Coordinating with other departments to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety protocols and overall design requirements.
- Verifying the accuracy of completed 3D designs and drawings before they are implemented.
- Documenting design processes and maintaining project records for reference purposes.
- Making necessary modifications to designs based on feedback from construction crews or project engineers.
- Identify potential operational issues and suggest improvements.
- Ensure designs comply with safety regulations and industry standards
- Coordinate with project teams to implement designs
- Monitor project progress and make necessary design modifications
- Prepare and present design proposals to clients and stakeholders
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new design and production techniques
REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred: General experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV), substation design, and/or strong familiarity with construction processes
- A two-year technical certificate or degree
- Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
SKILLS:
- Piping experience as a 3D Piping Designer or similar role preferred.
- Proficiency in 3D design software, such as AutoCAD, or MicroStation
- Sound knowledge of piping systems, operations, and materials.
- Strong attention to detail with an ability to spot potential problems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of safety regulations and industry standards.
- Degree in Engineering, Design or relevant field.
- Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong skills of time management, organization and multi-tasking.
- Ability to work in design teams, self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and taking the initiative to learn the trade.
- Strong computer skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training. Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
- Ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude preferred.
- This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, and use of hands and arms.
