About the position. The Superintendent is responsible for the direct supervision of field work performed. The Superintendent is a member of the project team and assures completion of the work on time per the contract and project schedule. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Constructs the project in conformance with the plans, specifications and the best standards of the trade. This applies to all work completed on the project including purchase order work, general trades work, subcontracted work, and self performed work.
• Reads, understands and retains the terms of all subcontracts and purchase order agreements. References these documents for mediating conflicts.
• Makes recommendations to the Estimator, Project Manager, and Project Engineer for design changes that will enhance the quality of the project, reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve the scheduled completion, or decrease construction costs before and during the construction process.
• Coordinates the work or the Subcontractor’s field forces and any other job related contractors as expeditiously as possible, based on existing job conditions and deadline requirements.
• Administrates an onsite construction meeting with each subcontracting firm’s field foreman on an individual basis prior to that subcontracting firm commencing work to determine each field fore man’s leadership abilities, technical qualifications, knowledge of the particular project, and to point out any inconsistencies, areas of concern, or conflict in the plans and specifications.
• Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with all Owner and Architect representatives assigned to the job. Reports any disputes or problems encountered to the Project Manager and General Superintendent for resolution.
• Completes daily report recording each specific Subcontractor’s manpower counts, conflicts and non-performance issues, idle equipment, etc. along with general information such as weather, visitors to the job, conflicts in the plans, etc.
• Maintains an organized, clean jobsite free of construction debris and organized in a condition that promotes a safe working environment for all personnel involved on the project.
• Completes jobsite safety and maintains OSHA safety standards and practices. Has updated injury log, posters, books, etc., in the event of unsafe practices and conditions that cannot be resolved by calls, General Superintendent or contracted Safety Consultant.
