Fleet Manager – LNG Tanker
Responsible for overseeing marine engineering operations for a fleet of LNG Vessels- the role encompasses employee supervision, performance management, equipment maintenance and upgrades, and budget administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all operations comply with company policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assess vendor services, negotiate contracts, and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Evaluate shipyard bid proposals and advise on contract awards.
- Support staffing efforts to maintain a qualified maritime workforce.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and vessel standards.
- Assist the Fleet Director in creating annual budgets, forecasting financial needs, and planning for drydocking, emergent repairs, and operational costs.
- Participate in monthly financial reviews, analyzing budget reports and providing updates to the Fleet Director on funding requirements and cash flow projections.
- Track major repair costs, drydock history, and regulatory recommendations, working with vessel Superintendents to create comprehensive technical specifications for maintenance periods.
- Oversee the drydocking process, ensuring fleet-wide preparation aligns with company timelines and procedural requirements.
- Collaborate with the Fleet Director to refine engineering best practices, drive cost efficiencies, and enhance vessel conditions.
- Conduct regular vessel visits with Superintendents to assess shipboard performance, material condition, and crew concerns, reporting findings to the Fleet Director.
- Monitor compliance with USCG regulations, class societies, and other governing bodies, coordinating necessary action plans.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in nautical science, marine engineering, marine transportation, or a related field.
- Equivalent experience with a maritime background may be considered in place of formal education.
Experience:
- 5–10 years in a marine engineering supervisory role, such as Fleet Technical Manager, Engineering Manager, Technical Superintendent, or Port Engineer.
- Experience with tankers or petroleum vessels preferred.
- Direct experience with LNG carriers or tankers utilizing GTT or membrane containment systems required.
- Steam turbine vessel experience required.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Experience with ship management, maintenance, and repair software (e.g., ABS Nautical Systems 5) preferred.
