Job Description

Marketing & Communications Coordinator Overview:


Under moderate supervision, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator will support the marketing and communication efforts of the community department. The individual in this position will be responsible for coordinating events and special projects and fostering positive relationships with governmental departments, partners, and communities.  This role may involve participation in ribbon cuttings, groundbreaking unveiling events, and other events as needed. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator must possess strong communication, organization, and planning skills to ensure a seamless execution of events and communication initiatives.


Duties & Responsibilities:

• Event Planning & Coordination: Plans, coordinates, and executes special events, focusing on addressing public housing, infrastructure, and essential community needs.

• Event Marketing & Promotion: Prepares event marketing materials and written content for event-related remarks, social media, and media outreach. In addition, I develop and update design templates to incorporate visual elements for social media and event promotion.

• Collaboration: Works closely with departments, contractors, and staff to ensure events run smoothly and efficiently. • Communication Support: Assists with writing and editing news releases, media advisories, social media posts, brochures, speeches, ads, web content, marketing videos, and other duties as needed.

• Project Support: Assists the Communications team with special communications projects and requests.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism, creative writing, mass communications, digital media, social media, or a related area. OR

• Associate's degree in a directly related field and three (3) years of experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism, creative writing, mass communications, digital media, social media, or a related area. OR

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations and one (1) year of experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism, creative writing, mass communications, digital media, social media, or a related area.


Licensure:

• Valid Driver's License (Texas upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with Microsoft applications including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel Adobe Pro/Creative Suite.

• Skills in writing and editing news releases, media advisories, social media posts, brochures, speeches, ads, web content, and marketing videos.

• Flexible problem-solver and self-starter to respond to changing situations and needs.

• Detail-oriented with excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills.

• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet critical deadlines.

• Demonstrated experience in special events, programming, advertising, and communications.

• Ability to maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior, exercising honesty and integrity, respect, confidentiality, and fairness in the execution of their responsibilities.

• Ability to effectively deliver and communicate information in a variety of settings and to diverse audiences.

 

General Informatio n:

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

• Full-Time | Regular • Monday - Friday | 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

• Operating on a hybrid schedule. Occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required based on the specific needs and demands of the department.


Work Environment:

• This position is based in an office environment, where the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, and filing cabinets is routine.


Physical Demands:

• The physical demands associated with this job are minimal, with occasional lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The role is predominantly sedentary, involving mainly sitting with occasional standing and walking.
