LPN - Observation Unit - PRN III - Days - $28 at Norman Regional Health System summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Observation Unit is responsible for delivering patient care in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and implementing care strategies for patients with common medical conditions. This role includes monitoring and assessing patients, prioritizing nursing care, and ensuring safe and effective nursing practices. The position requires a current Oklahoma State LPN License and offers various shift differentials based on the hours worked.

Overview:

Compensation

  • $28 flat rate
  • Evening differential $2.00/hr.
  • Night differential $2.50/hr.
  • Weekend differential $2.50/hr.

Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit.  Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes.  Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity.  Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments.  We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team, complemented by classroom courses, and a nurse residency program for new graduates. Responsibilities:

RN essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with other health professionals, assessment, analyzing assessment data, establishing goals, planning care strategy.
  • Establishing priorities of care, implementing care, delegating tasks safely, providing safe direct and indirect nursing care.
  • Evaluating responses to interventions, and performing additional nursing functions in accordance with knowledge and skills acquired beyond basic nursing preparation.
Qualifications:

Education

  • Completion of a vocational program for Licensed Practical Nurse.

Experience

  • Prefer previous hospital experience.
  • Previous work history reflecting stable employment is necessary. 
  • If no work experience, will consider school attendance record and performance.

(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).

 

Licensure/Certification.

  • Current Oklahoma State LPN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
