LPN - Observation Unit - PRN III - Days - $28 at Norman Regional Health System summary:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Med/Surg Observation Unit, the role involves providing compassionate and professional nursing care in a high-paced environment. Responsibilities include collaborating with healthcare professionals, assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and overseeing the nursing care for 4-6 patients. Candidates must possess a current LPN license and prefer prior hospital experience, along with a commitment to maintaining Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Overview:

Compensation

  • $28 flat rate
  • Evening differential $2.00/hr.
  • Night differential $2.50/hr.
  • Weekend differential $2.50/hr.

Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit.  Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes.  Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity.  Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments.  We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team, complemented by classroom courses, and a nurse residency program for new graduates. Responsibilities:

RN essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with other health professionals, assessment, analyzing assessment data, establishing goals, planning care strategy.
  • Establishing priorities of care, implementing care, delegating tasks safely, providing safe direct and indirect nursing care.
  • Evaluating responses to interventions, and performing additional nursing functions in accordance with knowledge and skills acquired beyond basic nursing preparation.
Qualifications:

Education

  • Completion of a vocational program for Licensed Practical Nurse.

Experience

  • Prefer previous hospital experience.
  • Previous work history reflecting stable employment is necessary. 
  • If no work experience, will consider school attendance record and performance.

(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).

 

Licensure/Certification.

  • Current Oklahoma State LPN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
