BENCH DOGS JOB OPENING: Business Development Manager - Commercial Markets - Manufacturing
Bench Dogs is looking to add an experienced Business Development Manager to the commercial side of our business!
Bench Dogs is a small manufacturing company located in Denver, PA that specializes in retail displays, store fixtures, and commercial case goods. We have under 100 employees and are unique in that we are a custom, full-service design, engineering, and manufacturing company that sees products from the time they're simply an idea to when they're fully built and installed onsite.
Bench Dogs has employees responsible for everything from design, engineering, and project management to production, inventory, and installation. Our facility is often complimented for its cleanliness and organization and is complete with offices, a warehouse area for inventory and materials, loading docks for staging and shipping goods, a machining department, and a large shop floor area for assembly that includes a finishing area and lamination booth.
Our Business Development Manager role is part of our sales team and will be focused on expanding our business in commercial markets. The position is responsible for executing sales strategies, initiating contact with existing and potential customers, following up on bids that have been submitted, and maintaining accurate dashboards to track sales progress. Bench Dogs' ability to thrive as a business is hugely dependent upon our being able to have a steady flow of well-suited jobs that align with our strengths. Our Business Development Manager plays a key role in making this happen helps to facilitate Bench Dogs' success by:
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key decision-makers in target organizations, including contractors, architects, and national accounts, to generate new business opportunities.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to develop and present winning proposals and presentations.
  • Screening and prioritizing incoming commercial opportunities for potential sales.
  • Negotiating contract terms with support from financial and legal teams.
  • Tracking sales activities and reporting on lead generation, opportunities, sales, and backlog status using a sales dashboard.
  • Explaining project estimates to customers once completed by the estimating team.
  • Managing opportunity quotes in Epicor/CRM to track sales prospects accurately.
  • Reviewing and analyzing construction contracts to control project cost and scope.
  • Coordinating sales order handoffs with estimating, engineering, and project management teams.
  • Tracking data to identify targeted accounts and business opportunities.
  • Collaborating with VP of Sales and Marketing on marketing campaigns for targeted commercial markets.
  • Organizing photo shoots for project reviews and turnovers as part of marketing efforts.
  • Setting up new customer accounts in Epicor, including credit reviews and contact information.
  • Monitoring and tracking performance against the commercial division's annual sales budget.
  • Managing the business development budget effectively.
  • Staying updated on market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to guide business strategy.
Our Business Development Manager role is a full-time position that will require travel less than 50% of the time . The travel will primarily be somewhat local but could also occasionally include non-local travel with overnight stays. The general schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm , and will require some time onsite at our facility in Denver, PA to successfully operate with our team. However, there is flexibility with this and capacity for partial remote work . Our team is excited to add a new member to our team and is looking to bring on someone with knowledge and experience in the construction industry who is eager to work with us and create a lasting, positive impact. Total compensation for this role is roughly $90k - $120k annually and will consider experience and performance.
The following competencies offer additional insight into what would make someone a great Business Development Manager for Bench Dogs:
  • 5 years in the construction industry and 3 years in sales and marketing roles.
  • Ability to differentiate Bench Dogs' products/services from the competition.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with customers, internal staff, partners, and suppliers.
  • A solid understanding of the sales skills necessary to identify, qualify, and close deals.
  • Experience and understanding of construction documents.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.) and Adobe.
  • An understanding of the graphic design process.
  • A strong understanding of social media strategies and platforms, along with an ability to implement them.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, be a self-starter, and take initiative.
  • Ability to manage/balance multiple marketing initiatives.
  • Ability to be organized, yet adaptable, and navigate competing priorities.
  • CRM application experience is a plus.
  • ERP application experience is a plus
